I almost built the wrong business.
Not because I didn't know what I was doing. But because I was about to do what everyone else said I should do.
Post 5x a day on TikTok. Chase the algorithm. Scale fast. Hustle harder.
I tried that. For two months straight. Posted 5 times a day. Hit 1,600 followers.
And burned out so hard I deleted everything.
That's when I learned the most important lesson of my entire entrepreneurial journey:
Clarity before strategy. Always.
What Is the ESSENCE Phase?
ESSENCE is the first phase of ESSENTFLOW™—my capacity stewardship framework for high-capacity people who are exhausted from self-abandoning.
It's the phase where you get crystal clear on:
- Who you actually are (not who you "should" be)
- What you value (not what gets you praise)
- What's non-negotiable (not what's convenient to compromise)
- How you want to build (not how everyone else is building)
Most people skip this phase.
They jump straight to:
- Content calendars
- Lead magnets
- Product launches
- Growth strategies
And then they wonder why their business feels like a cage they built themselves.
Why I Needed ESSENCE (The Breakdown)
In September 2025, I was exhausted.
I had been:
- Posting 5x daily on TikTok
- Chasing algorithm trends
- Creating content that didn't sound like me
- Measuring my worth by follower count
- Ignoring every signal from my nervous system
My body shut me down.
I would sit down to create content and feel nausea. Creative resistance. Physical symptoms with no medical cause.
I wasn't lazy.
I was high-capacity.
And my nervous system finally said: "NO MORE SELF-ABANDONING."
That's when I realized: I never got clear on what I was actually building.
I was building someone else's business. On someone else's timeline. Using someone else's values.
I needed ESSENCE.
What I Did During ESSENCE Phase (July - November 2025)
Here's what getting clear actually looked like:
1. I Discovered I Was High-Capacity
Through conversations and self-reflection, I realized:
- I've been told my whole life "you get so much done"
- I can manage 3-5+ major responsibilities at once
- I can conceptualize while executing
- I maintain high output even when exhausted
I'm not just a "hard worker." I'm high-capacity.
And I'd been exploiting my capacity instead of stewarding it.
2. I Identified My Non-Negotiables
I wrote down what was ACTUALLY non-negotiable for me:
- Sabbath rest every week (no work, no exceptions)
- Family time protected (I only work after bedtime)
- Zero budget (building with free tools only)
- Platform independence (no algorithm dependency)
- Nervous system regulation as a KPI
These weren't "nice to haves." They were the FOUNDATION of everything I would build.
3. I Left Hustle Culture Behind
I deleted TikTok. All of it.
Then I deleted Facebook. Instagram. Threads.
Not because social media is bad. But because for me, it was perpetuating a cycle of:
- External validation
- Algorithm anxiety
- Productivity as worth
- Constant comparison
I needed to build on owned platforms. Where I controlled the experience.
4. I Found My Authentic Framework
Through all of this, ESSENTFLOW™ emerged.
Not because I invented it. But because I needed it.
A framework that teaches:
- Clarity before strategy (ESSENCE)
- Infrastructure that supports you (FOUNDATION)
- Sustainable momentum (FLOW)
Built on seven principles:
- Calm Is a KPI
- Clarity Before Action
- Systems Support Humans
- Flow Over Force
- Capacity Stewardship Over Productivity Optimization
- Platform Independence Is Non-Negotiable
- Rest Is Infrastructure, Not Luxury
This wasn't a rebrand. This was my survival.
5. I Named My Business Authentically
I went through several iterations:
- "Intentional by Shae" (too generic)
- "The Growth Blueprint" (not aligned)
- "intrica OS" (too complex)
Then ESSENTFLOW™ emerged from a list of unique names.
And I knew.
Because it wasn't just a brand. It was what I was living.
Why ESSENCE Matters (The Part Everyone Skips)
Here's what happens when you skip ESSENCE:
- You build a business that feels misaligned
- You create content that drains you
- You attract an audience you resent
- You keep rebranding every 6 months
- You burn out because the foundation is wrong
You can't build a sustainable business on an unclear foundation.
Strategy without clarity is just expensive chaos.
What ESSENCE Gave Me
By the end of November 2025, I had:
- Identity clarity - I'm a high-capacity person, not broken
- Value alignment - My business reflects MY values, not hustle culture's
- Non-negotiables - Protected boundaries I won't compromise
- Authentic positioning - ESSENTFLOW™ as my framework
- Direction - I knew WHAT to build and WHY
I was ready for FOUNDATION.
But I wouldn't have been without ESSENCE.
How to Know If You Need ESSENCE Phase
You need ESSENCE if:
- You keep rebranding every few months
- Your content doesn't sound like you
- You dread delivering your offers
- Your business feels like a cage you built
- You're exhausted but don't know why
- You're building what you "should" instead of what's aligned
ESSENCE isn't a luxury. It's the foundation.
What's Next: FOUNDATION Phase
Once you have clarity, you can build.
But you build differently.
You build infrastructure that:
- Supports your capacity instead of exploiting it
- Works at a pace you can sustain
- Honors your non-negotiables
- Reflects your actual values
That's FOUNDATION phase.
And I'll share how I built my entire business infrastructure in 3 months—on a zero budget, after bedtime hours, while honoring Sabbath rest—in the next post.
The Bottom Line
Clarity before strategy.
Every time.
If you're exhausted, burned out, or building a business that feels wrong—you probably skipped ESSENCE.
Go back.
Get clear.
Then build.
